This started with a convo with my friend Alex on AIM, which went like this:
Alex: how do mermaids have sex?
Me: they probably spawn like fish, cause that half of them is generally of a fish...
Me (again): or, like other sea mammals do.... the girlies have a hole, adn the boyos have a cock that comes out of a hole... and they stick it in the girlie hole!
Alex: LOL
Yes... then at lunch i mentioned it, and we went on from there, and even got to the point of whether or not merchildren were born from eggs outside of the body, or from within, and then what they eat.... we were really talking about this stuff!
We have the most random discussions at lunch....

I think it some combination of the two... the mer-cuple make love like any other sea mammals then the mother lays a fertalized egg... It would help the mother becouse she would not be burdoned by the extra cargo and as sevral myths point to, mermen appear to be overly solotary so they may leave the mother behind knowing she can take care of her self...
